Hope Your Day is a Hoot!

Hi Crafty Friends,

It's my turn to post a tutorial today for the Coloring Design Team on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love owls .... why else would my blog be names StampOwl's Studio! You can never have too many owls!!! So when Els showed me this stamp set that is being released next week by designer Krista Schneider of course I was excited and have been so wanting to play with it.

Here is how I created my card:

Step 1 -

  • Stamp and color the owls of your choice from the Give a Hoot Clear Stamp set.
  • Die cut the images using coordinating dies.
Step 2 -
  • Use the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set to die cut a piece of designer paper from the ModaScrap Polinesia Patterned Paper Pack (6" x 6" pack used here)
  • Using the largest rectangle from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set, die cut a piece of black cardstock
  • Layer pieces together.

Step 3 -
  • Using the fifth smallest fishtail banner from the Stitched Fishtails die set, die cut one fishtail in White Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Using the fifth smallest banner from the Fitted Fishtails die set, die cut one fishtail in black cardstock.
  • Layer the two fishtail panels together and add to the top left hand side of the card (refer to photo above for placement.
Step 4 -
  • Using a coordinating designer paper from the ModaScrap Polinesia Patterned Paper Pack, cut a piece of paper 3/4 inches wide. (Optional - if you want to have dots on the edges to match the background layer, use the Stitched Rectangles die to cut the edges so they match the background).
  • Layer the designer paper onto a piece of black cardstock that measures 7/8 inches x 4 inches.
  • Attach this panel across the top of the card so it covers the top of the fishtail banner. (Note as this panel will be attached to an uneven surface, you can either pack the top half of this panel which won't touch the fishtail banner with cardstock or add foam tape to this area).
  • Add Black/Silver Glitter Dot Peel Off Stickers across the panel.
Step 5 -
  • Using the "Hope your ay is a HOOT!" sentiment from the If Animals Could Talk Clear Stamp set, mask off all the sentiment except for the "Hoot!" and stamp this twice at the lower right hand corner of the card using black ink.
Step 6 -

  • Adhere the owls and moon to the fishtail banner using foam tape.

Step 7 - Inside of Card:
  • Use the second largest rectangle from the Stitched Rectangles die set to die cut a piece of designer paper from the ModaScrap Polinesia Patterned Paper Pack (6" x 6" pack used here)
  • Using the largest rectangle from the Dotted Scallop Rectangles die set, die cut a piece of black cardstock
  • Layer pieces together.
  • Using the "Hope your day is a Hoot!" sentiment from the If Animals Could Talk Clear Stamp set, stamp the sentiment towards the upper part of the panel using black ink.
  • Adhere another of the owls from the Give a Hoot! Clear Stamp set to the bottom right hand corner of the card.
Step 8 -
  • Using the second smallest fishtail banner from the Stitched Fishtails die set, die cut two fishtail banners from the same designer paper you used for the background of the front of the card.
  • Using the second smallest banner from the Fitted Fishtails die set, die cut two fishtail banners from black cardstock.
  • Layer fishtail banners together, Trim to desired length and adhere to card using photo above as a guide.
Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Aww - those owls are so cute! Fun card - I like your colours. Thanks for letting us know WHEN the new stamps will be at least available for preview. It's been frustrating seeing them used by others, photos from the shows etc but no indication when us mere mortals would be able to see them. :-)
